My Dad was climbing a mountain in Oregon. The day before the park ranger had gone around all the camping sites to tell us about a missing basset hound named “Kelly”. Dad was climbing the next day . At about 7, 000 feet he saw the dog, exhausted poor thing, just sitting on a small cliff. He carried her down the mountain and we took her home after getting the owner’s info from the ranger. She must have followed climbers up, but because of her build she couldn’t climb down. She mainly needed water. She stayed with us until her owners could arrange for, her to be flown home. She was the absolute sweetest, loveliest dog imaginable. I was so sorry when we sent her home

People don't realize how big bassets are because they are so short! But they are large dogs and very solid. Such sweethearts!

My buddy had one. He loved people. One of the happiest and LOUDEST dogs I've ever met. He'd happily at anyone that tried to talk to him. Best way to get him riled up was to call him a good boy a few times and then ask who the good boy was.

I have said before that I have been owned by Basset Hounds for over 30 years. I'm a member of the Fort Dearborn Basset Hound Club and the Basset Hound Club of America.

You will find that when brushing the white fur, it can go on forever. The brown and black not so much. The Furminator and Zoom Groom are the best to use on a Basset Hound. Also, their paws do need to be shaved, and sometimes the best way to do that and the nails is to straddle them. I do it all the time.

I absolutely love your videos and the way you are with your furry customers.

I had a tri color Basset a long time ago. I was surprised at how fast they can run, when they want to. I nicknamed her my "Land Torpedo".

We had a Basset for nearly nine years, but lost him over Christmas from cancer. He was the sweetest, goofiest guy you could imagine. We miss him. 😢
