Mi Teleférico in La Paz Bolivia: World's Best Public Transit

The Mi Teleférico in La Paz, Bolivia holds the Guinness World Record for longest and highest urban cable car system. Even more than that, it should be held up as an example of how to do public transportation the right way. The cable cars carry thousands of residents and visitors every day. Mi Teleférico is clean, safe, inexpensive, efficient and fast.

In its first ten years of operation, Mi Teleférico carried 520-million passengers. It could very well be the best public transportation system on the planet.

In this video, I'll show you the system, talk about the different lines and inform you about some of the places you can reach by taking the cable car.

Music provided by Epidemic Sound.

Having retired in 2023, I now travel full-time, seeing places all around the world. My idea for YouTube is to make the videos more about the places and people along the way, than about me. I hope that the experience for you is both entertaining and educational. Perhaps you will come away from my channel with ideas about places you would like to visit or be inspired to forge your own way.

I travel slowly, spending four or five weeks in each destination. Hopefully, that will allow me to go beyond the surface to find the essence of each location. By the end of 2024, I will have visited 14 countries and five of the seven continents. Come along for the journey!

I like that often you were the only person in these cable cars. I certainly like the idea of having a cable car all to myself!

Wow very interesting video! Mexico City implemented a teleferico system in various parts of town, especially in lower income parts of the city. I loved the Valle de la Luna, what an interesting landscape!!

This is spectacular! How amazing would it be to jump on there to head to work every day? And, to be able to access all those great places on it?! This is definitely the most appealing public transportation I have ever seen!

Supposedly Neil Armstrong named Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) because it reminded him of the craters he saw on the moon. Not sure if it's true, but that's what I've read from a few Bolivian Tour agencies.

BTW, I've been enjoying your videos on Bolivia. I lived there about 45 years ago when I was about 5-6 years old. I will be returning for the first time in a few weeks. Your videos have given me many things to add to my trip. Thank you.

You also mention being told that San Miguel has the most expats. I think what you were told probably refers to the general area of the city including the neighborhoods of Calacoto and Irpavi (and possibly other neighboring areas?). We lived in Irpavi when I was young. It is a more affluent residential area consisting of single dwelling homes adjacent to both Calacoto and San Miguel. In fact the end of the green line is actually in Irpavi on the very edge of Calacoto.

Great video! It reminds my Teleférico riding experience in Bogata and Medellín. But this one is definitely on steroids. Hopefully I can find time to do a bit teleférico "circumnavigation" next week.

I thought what you referred to as 'San Miguel' was 'Calacoto.' But it really is the nicest part of the city, along with Sacatepequez.

Hello, I have visited your channel, the quality of your videos is very good. But according to the video quality, there are not many views. Many of the channels in your category are not of good quality, but many views are coming. All those videos are SEO and marketing on various social media. It is because of this that the views come. If your videos are properly SEO'ed and marketed on top social medias then the views will definitely increase as expected.
