and deceptive reporting from digInfo. in the beginning there was no mention of the projectors on the outside of the room; it seemed like the pizza box was somehow displaying video on its own by the little square stickers on the lid and I assumed the banana phone rang on its own as well.

Interesting concept, actually.
Think of something like, all your data is stored in the cloud, you have something like NFC chip with your ID info in your body. You enter the supermarket, direct your hand towards yourself, like a small screen imaginary screen, do a gesture of some sort, like tapping and BAM, you get projected image with your interactive buylist with check-boxes.
You take the product, gesture ?-mark on it's surface, bam, your get interactive info, page, with ratings, review, etc.
