Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. The method to teach this is fundamentally correct. I am 30 and refreshing my math skills in preparation for the college placement test. I remember very little of the memorized methods of solving. I find that now while studying I ask 'why' 100 times more than I ever did. It is not only about understanding what to do in a certain scenario, but why it is logical to do so.

FOIL only works for two by two binomials.. stick with either the box method, or distributive property.

Or you could do the table method it's much faster to perform and easier to remember when multiplying binomials.
