Red Magic 5S | Full Tour & Gaming Test

Unboxing the Red Magic 5S smartphone, plus a full tour of the hardware and software and an in-depth gaming test with PubG Mobile/Call of Duty. I've done full benchmarking with Game Bench, testing the performance and battery life while reviewing those gamer phone features. So here's my hands-on verdict of what could be the best value gaming blower of 2020, and alternative to Pro rivals like the Black Shark 3.

The specs are certainly beefy on the Red Magic 5S, although not quite as competitive vs the ROG Phone 3. That Snapdragon 865 platform can still blaze through PubG or CoD on top detail settings at 60FPS. Battery life isn't quite as impressive, with the 4500mAh battery draining in just under four hours when gaming. That's with 144Hz active however, and making full use of gamer features like the shoulder buttons.

After reviewing the grunt on the Red Magic 5S I also checked out the camera tech, including the 64MP primary lens with Sony's IMX686 sensor. It's nothing revolutionary but takes respectable photos and up to 4K resolution video at 60FPS.

So is this one of the greatest gaming phones of 2020? It's certainly one of my favourites at the £500 price point, but let me know your own verdict below!

I have the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G. Handles games fantastically but this phone definitely looks fantastic. I may get the next iteration of this phone when my phone's contract ends next year. I mainly use my phone for gaming and videos so getting this would be great as it's cheaper than most flagship devices but with the latest chipset. Not to mention a headphone jack.

I pre ordered the 5s on the 26th is came five days later. For the price 900 cad after import fee it's amazing. The fan actually work on cod mobile my phone gets warm but not hot. Have the pulse version and it runs very smooth. So far very happy with phone.

I saw a different review and with 16gb of ram it is a beast...you really get the performance with the cooling dock and internal fan turned on...i think for its price it is an amazing powerhouse

Tencent and other devs need to uncap the fram rates on their games. Max graphics codm with everything turned up to its max should be running at 90 to 130 fps on a device of that caliber

Great review (as always), I quite like that phone, but I've got a Realme 6 Pro & the only games I play on it is Pocket Tanks & Google Cricket lol so yeh, wasted on me! Although, my nephew is looking at something with those specs.. 😁
