Facts. I took semesters of class like Algebra 2 and marine biology. Ask me if I've used either in the past 15 years. No! Why are we not teaching more life skills that would be useful?

I feel the same way, about the ukulele in South Africa. It's so much fun to learn the ukulele and it teaches such valuable skills that opens a world of music to a child, but somehow they chose the recorder as the primary instruments and lots of parents strongly dislike the sound of the recorder. Imagine a world where everyone can sing and play the ukulele together. Also the schools need to teach the Rubik's cube and other twisty puzzles, chess, juggling, yo-yo and hula hoop. These activities are great for boosting cognitive development and offers an opportunity for the student to build their self-confidence and discover what type of activities they enjoy most. Where do the people who want to fix the education system hang out?

In my primary school we had people come in to help us learn some business skills. We all had to launch a business, we made necklaces and bracelets and we all had little stalls where we sold our stuff after school to other students and their parents, it was really good. The scheme was called "Mind Your Own Business" - I still have the free ruler we got! We also had similar things in my secondary school so I definitely got taught some sales stuff.

I taught 30 years in colleges and universities as economic and business tutor! Struggeled with the rigidity of the admins and the curriculums, I always tell my stueents:
SELL YOURSELF FIRST BEFORE SELLING YOUR PRODUCTS.
