I didn’t get my license until I was 23, and I’m quite frankly super relieved I waited. I wasn’t diagnosed with anxiety until I was 21, so when I was first learning to drive at 16 I was an absolute wreck every time I was behind the steering wheel. I would just imagine myself making a mistake and causing a wreck, killing or hurting multiple people involved, because my brain was automatically formatting the worst case scenario in my head. And I didn’t want to tell anyone what was going through my head because I didn’t want anyone to think I was incapable, so to everyone else I was basically crumpling into a heap of tears without any clear reason why.

So yeah, definitely glad I waited. Got a near perfect score on my test, and I use my experience as a reminder to my younger siblings and other younger family members that life isn’t a race, and you don’t have to treat “milestones” as goal posts as you race towards the finish line.
