PM could face Tory rebellion over plan for social care charges

The government is under mounting pressure after senior Conservatives hit out at a change to the new plans for social care.

They say the proposed measures, which introduce a cap on individual contributions, disadvantage those whose homes are worth less.

The prime minister faces opposition in the Commons as early as Tuesday by a number of MPs, many of whom represent areas in the north where typical property values are lower.

When I first heard about this I honestly thought it was a joke or an exaggeration. There's no way the Tories would think this would go over well I thought to myself. Then I remember everything else they've done and had to backtrack on.

The current Tory regime has learnt they can try anything, in full face of the public, and if it goes really poorly after a u-turn all is forgiven.

You’re asking older middle and lower income people to lose their only meaningful asset and thus their children to lose the only thing they might stand to inherit, essentially bankrupting two generations. Just tax the rich and stop suggesting people “who need it” should pay. Like anything this is an issue of human dignity, like homelessness, prison or child care, that society must address and solve to remove as much needless suffering as possible. How these people get into government is beyond me!

Everyone, when you retire...go on cruises..holidays..just release equity, especially if you have a small houses or middle class. Live whilst you can. Don't let them take all your money
.help your children's uni fees. if you can, put a deposit on your grown up childrens house It's so wrong. It's like the harder you have worked all your life, they take your money. Obviously leave what you have for a comfortable life (if you can )
The very rich people should pay much more ..it's so simple.
If you release equity whilst you can..just do it
They will be forced to pay what you have left...That's if you need care.
