John Mayer is definitely one of the best guitarrist of all time!! He plays slow and speed notes with losts of emotion and he also makes unbelievable songs with simply chords. But I understand why so many people don't like him: not everyone can play those crazy beautiful solos and riffs with his style and technique (on acoustic and electric guitar)... It's really hard

Thank you casswell for confirming what I've always thought Mayer has one of the best vibrato's I've ever heard!

I have been listening to both John Mayer and SRV alot for the past 2 years, when i started to play guitar and i discovered them as blues guitarists.
Now with this experience i very much get that you're trying to defend SRV as this holy grail of blues guitar, but in reality music just doesn't quite work that way.
Musical preferences and opinions differ, and in that way there is no best music.
I can accept SRV as the greatest, but im still gonna listen to John Mayer on my way to work today

You need to listen to Mayer live and more of his songs then...this guy is one of the best young blues players around

I completely agree, he is the genuine article with regards to his musicianship and as i said, he is one of my favourite artists. I'm just not one to overly venerate any band/artist unless its due. Loving the new album though, defo a grower :D

If you begin to work on a "How to Play John Mayer Volume 2" you should definitely put "I Don't Need No Doctor" and "Belief" on it... :D

This dudes total pop lesson.. Better than i thought? Not trying to fill my ears with pop or something hes not. He says, at the end politely giving john mayer respect, A lot of players felt (pop)about John Mayer then Chicago blues fest John Mayer got my respect from paparazzi

this is the most unique playing ive heard i think ever... most metal players, blues players, jazz players, pop players, all sound the same or similar. john mayer has his style. and its HIS. i dont see ANYONE out there with his style of playing. his songs may sound like pop, but trust me, that shit is hard to play! and im a metal shredder... i cant play mayer songs! hahaha

Ok, give me a week? So neon by John Mayer? It'll be up by next saturday. Metal isn't only about shredding you know.. I feel that the best solos are full of emotion, and not just wanking the fret board. Anyone can do that with practice. I grew up playing the violin, piano and the saxophone. Neon? Bring it! :P

Casswell Thank you and congratulations! So, when you will launch the LEARN TO PLAY JOHN MAYER VOLUME 2 with other songs?

Oh definitely, I like the music and the playing, but it's not really that hard to play. I'm a metal player as well, but I enjoy listening to this

Haha good, although, I think it's only fair, since i'm putting up neon, that you put up some shred, since its so easy? Technical difficulties - Paul Gilbert. Fair?

You say its not the point, but your question/point was 'Name me one artist who can play a complex song like Neon like John Mayer did live in LA and can sing without a mistake while playing it? Live not even John Mayer can do so(or many artists). Yes, every DVD is brushed/touched up, but its more apparent these days with 'Auto-tune' that has you fooled into thinking John Mayers Neon vocal was flawless on Live in LA. Do you think JMs vocal on Neon Live in LA actually sounded like that at the gig?

Ah, the popular misconception that shredding and speed are the most challenging aspects of guitar. You don't have to be advanced to just play all the notes in Mayer's songs, but to make it groove and express it at a level even approaching his requires a lot more hard work and dedication than practising running up and down scales in front of a metronome.

Name me one artist who can play a complex song like Neon like John Mayer did live in LA and can sing without a mistake while playing it? Do you know any pop star who has composed such a beautiful song as Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, on his own without other people having to write for him? You are just one of those musical talents that are so great that they know everything about music, and yet I bet you don't even know how to play any instrument... -.-
