In today's episode, I'll share how the orchids are doing in the self-watering setup. I have about 8 plants in self-watering and I'll share some tips on what I've learned growing these plants in this setup. It may not be ok for all types of orchids, but there are some that thrive with additional moisture that these setups provide.

Didn’t realize you have using that setup for three years .. that’s a good information!

Can you please share how you did the self watering setup in bark? Does the wick go up the put to near the surface, or is the bark able to wick from the bottom of the pot? Is the media just straight bark or do you have pummice or other wicking material mixed in? I'm in a cooler climate, so I'm thinking of trying bark with self watering given what you said about it wicking more slowly.

Hi, Nice video, thank you for sharing your tips. I do grow lots of my orchids in semihydro and self watering set up. I have noticed cattleyas do very well in the set up. Also my letoriya dendrobiums and encyclical and oncidiums do well. Good luck and happy growing 😀!

Hi, I have a few in LECA self watering that seem to be doing well (2 Phaps and one summer bloomer). I also have a few in strictly moss with bark on top (Phal hybrids) and they are doing well, too. Before the summer is over, I plan on transferring all of my Phal hybrids over to LECA in self watering, this system gives so much freedom as you stated. Good luck with all of yours in these set ups and I love your videos!!

I love the way you edit your videos! I have the same experience with summer blooming phals, in that I find leca too cooling and they need a heat mat, so I decided to put all of the summer bloomers in moss.

Nice 3 year progress on your self watering orchids. Great info and tips. I use self watering on my Miltoniopsis, Oncidium types and one Zygo type. I've only had them in the setup a year so not sure how well they'll do further down the road.

My oncidium cant tolerate being in a semi hydro setup. They rot due to being always moist which i thought before doing that experiment will benefit itself since oncidium like moist retaininb media. I used lava rocks as my media and also tried pumice. Im still thinking if using leca will change the result
