It wasn't until his passing that I realized his tremendous contribution to my life. I remember watching Black Hole Sun on MTV and getting high with my buddies after junior high school. Now I search for a higher power and my own recovery, often listening to later works like this and Like A Stone. His death is a reminder that we don't all make it. Thank God his search was not in vain. The pain and struggle in his voice and lyrics, the depth of this very human soul, the wretchedness and the blessedness which wage constant battle within each of us, all testify to an examined life and an incredible talent. There is a certain feeling that comes when I listen to his music. It is a feeling of being alive. His voice lives on and his experiences edify all of us who keep it alive.

Chris, I only "discovered" you two years ago when I first heard, "Nearly forgot my broken heart". Never paid much attention beyond that, but since your death, I can't stop paying attention to your beautiful gift of a voice, your music, and knowledge of the beautiful, sensitive soul that you were.
