A series of 11 canal locks and dams were built along the Muskingum River in central Ohio between 1836 to 1841. This is the story behind Lock and Dam # 9 in Philo, Ohio.

Imagine going back in time to see these locks in use! All the activity around the canals and the commerce they provided. This was the highway to move goods during an earlier time. All the hard work and hand work to build the canal system and so short lived! This was an amazing time! Thanks for sharing your travels!

My step-grandmother's father Albert Sheppard was lockmaster here for many years. I have many pictures of the locks and house from the early 1900's.

50 minutes road trip yesterday to see this the lock was about full here just a few Feet when we were there

I've heard that banjo tune on other channels. Simple but good. What is it called and where is it found? I don't think you have been to the locks at Metamora Indiana, have you?
