I'm still using my 2013 Mac Pro great machine still. I was debating getting the 27" 5k but ended up getting LG's 38" ultra wide.

Will this work with a Apple Studio Display instead of the LG?

Thanks for the video, that's very helpful. One thing I could not find an answer to is whether the webcam, speakers, microphone, and USB-C ports will work over the legacy Thunderbolt 2 connection. I’d be fine if the USB-C ports don’t work (or only work with USB 2.0 speeds), but the webcam, mic and speakers not working would be a deal-braker.

I saw this combination in an Apple store. The LG 5k display looks gorgeous and meticulous nevertheless it‘s in 4K mode.

very interesting. What's the maximum resolution you can get and at what refresh rate? full 5K at 60hz?

thanks for this! I just set this up on my 2013 mac pro however have been getting BIG TIME flickering on my display ... any idea why that might be happening? It ramps up more when the computer is doing exhausting tasks (premiere/photoshop). THANK YOU!

Mac pro 2013 can use native 5120*2880 60hz resolution on Dell UP2715K or HP Z27q 5K.

Is it possible to hook up 2x 24 inch ultra fine displays with the TB3 port ... my Mac Pro has D700s

I do the same but with the Studio Display. It is basically the same monitor as the LG UltraFine 5K, but a bit more beautiful and with a more stable stand. If I choose the QHD resolution (2560x1440 ppi) I can even use MacOS High Sierra. I still think that is a very good and stable operating system.
Why not opt for a standard QHD monitor?
Even when you scale it, a 5K monitor is sharper than standard QHD.

Everyone seems to only care about the 5k functionality of this monitor, that, the question that no one is answering or even asking, is what about other functionality such as, getting the boot selector screen if you have Windows on there for example, and do the things like, ambient sensor, webcam, microphone & speakers work ? Thanks, Arikatect, interesting video. Please take note that you are not driving the display at its native 5120*2880 resolution. The Ultrafine 5K is constructed in a way that it combines two DisplayPort 1.2 streams internally. With the adapter soultion you use it is only one stream limiting your display to 4096. macOS will still scale a 2560*1440 HiDPI interface but effectively you are not driving the full potential out of your monitor.
I did a lot of testing when the 5K came to market and was deeply frustrated with apple neglecting its professional user base. Even in the Apple stores that have the 5K Ultrafine on Display and connected to a MacPro they are running the monitor at lower resolution. IIMHO Unacceptable for professional graphic and design work

Does the 2013 Mac Pro with tb2-3 adapter allows you to run the 5K UltraFine in default resolution of 2560x1440 with retina pixel doubling?

I have an Ultrafine 5K connected to a Mac Pro 2013 (with D700 video graphics card), with Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, and I'm facing many issues. Actually, it works, but after some time I start to have issues, likes horizontal lines flashing, and micro freezes. One friend of mine is having the same issue. I've done toons of tests (changing the adapter, changing the Thunderbolt port the display is connected...) but I have always the same issue. Therefore, I've seen that MacPro 2013 is no more on Apple compatibility list for the LG Ultrafine 5K...
Does anybody having the same issues?
Many thanks

I use LG UltraFine 5K display around18 months, one day, there are a lot of ghost image and burn in, just stay for 5 seconds, the image will burn in, and it will take a long time to get lost. I asked LG for . Someone came to follow up, and after seeing the ghost image and called back to the company. The Engineering said " normal". I don’t accept and continue to ask LG, The Engineering only responded to "normal" without explaining any reasons and improvement methods.
The LG UltraFine 5K display in the Apple Store has a same image problem.
