I’ve been toying with an idea for years about getting humans to the point of not only minimizing the amount of bio waste we create but eliminate the need for food and water, not only would this help earth but extremely helpful in terms of space travel. I have this concept on paper with “Russian nesting doll” style of ball, the deepest ball holds some form of rapid growing algae/protein/mushroom/virus etc. to create food for the body, working on chemical timers each ball opens up separately, housing opens and the mix grows into the second ball then housing closes and outer ball opens for the stomach to break down that batch then the cycle repeats. Maybe we get to the point of having an operation every 20-30 years to introduce more starter or perhaps it’s a one time deal as a child and eliminate the need to eat and drink your entire life.

My idea on the approach
If it’s a habitable dome - put a dome near the creators and take some of earths water and put it there, do it long enough and the water will go down a bit kinda reversing the water rose from global warming

If anyone wants to watch a sci-fi on the topic, I suggest you to watch 'The Silent Sea', not too long, 8 episodes only but it's mind blowing. I watched it when all of the episodes were released and it still hasn't left my mind at all.
