CRETE Spili - The 'WATER VILLAGE' in Rethymnon GREECE

The town of Spili is located in the area of the prefecture of Rethymnon, head of the municipality of Lampis to which also the beautiful vollage of Agia Galini belongs. Spili’s top placde to see is its main square, where a grand Venetian fountain takes center stage, featuring 25 lion-heads spouting fresh water sourced from the nearby Mount Ida, Crete’s highest mountain for all the year long ! You can enjoy the fresh and cold water directly from there.
Spili is located about 30km south of Rethymno city in Crete at an altitude of 430m, and it is built at the foot of Voriza Mountain. The village’s population is about 800 residents and of course many more during the summer.
The name Spili (Σπήλι in Greek) comes from the Greek word for cave (spilia) Spili isalways worth a stop when you pass by when you are going to the south .
