Hi Lon, after these years, do you still use M-Disc to archive things? Amazon has quite mixed reviews. Thanks!

So how 'bout that follow-up video about how actually burning the things went?
Personally I'd like to know which program you used to burn them, what settings were available, and how the discs work or react when you put an already-burned M-Disc into the blu-ray drive.
Example: Does using Fire Explorer to browse the contents of the M-Disc work in the same way that you can browse a USB drive or a hard drive? Or do you need a special program to read them or something (unlikely).

the supposed 'stone material' is only on mdisc dvds
they've branded the bluerays as mdisc because I guess they decided the inorganic material can last almost as long....

Can you check if it's still readable now?

Ideally, you should store all your written M-Discs in a 'disaster proof' safe which is fireproof, heatproof and watertight. ;-)

Hey Lon I just purchased the WH16NS40 and it can't read 4k discs. Apparent (from my own forum search) the newest firmware it ships with (1.03) no longer allows the device to read 4k discs. If you're lucky and your drive shipped with the older 1.02 firmware or lower you can still read 4k discs. If you accidentally upgrade the firmware to 1.03, you're out of luck.

I have seen some info on the WH16NS40 and have seen some claims that it only supports the M-DISC (DVD) format but is not capable of burning M-DISC BDs at Does anyone have actual experience with this? I am hoping to burn some M-DISC BDs and have been looking at this drive.

The LG drive is not able to record to 50GB discs (Even regular non-M Disc), first one I had overheated and had to be returned, the next LG one failed most of the time at writing any 50GBs discs which lead to some 10s of discs just tossed away. I found a Pioneer drive and that never had issues burning 50GB discs, I am assuming the LG will also have a lot of problems burning anything that's a 100 or 128GB disc. The LG can read any 50GB discs fine, so I kept it and have two drives. A lot of issues and very expensive, you have to know what you are doing and experiment which is not cheap.

Any blu-ray burner can write m-discs... please check the FAQ on the mdisc website...

Do the m-disc blue rays work in older blue-ray players?

I bought the NS60. It's supposed to play 4k but a review said there was an update that disables it. Anybody know if that's true?

@5:03 "They say it will last like 1000, but there is no way to verify that".

Was looking at burners and with everything I read i'm confused on what has software between the WH16NS40 and the BH16NS40, and if it would be better to just get the barebones (I'm assuming the WH) and buy software since what I have read is the software would be outdated at this point? I guess my question is what is the most functional Blu-Ray burner and software today. IF I understand what I have read, the WH version doesn't come with software and is cheaper but the BH does and costs more but is outdated since the website for Cyberlink says they have PowerDVD 18 and seems the BH comes with PowerDVD 10. Then there I Nero which I know nothing about but see it on Amazon. Mostly I'm looking to just archive pictures and videos I have shot/made. Would like to back up some music and movies I own also. I'm not looking for the best, just information on something that works well. Lon, if you have any comments/suggestions/opinions I would really appreciate your thoughts. Anyone else that would like to chime in is also welcome. Thank you!
