I was laughing cringing and everything but then I found out that Tahereh Mafi's net worth is 61 million. The joke is on us ya'll.

"Sometimes I'll start a sentence, and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way. Like an improv conversation. An improversation." - Micheal Scott. One sentence to describe this whole series. 👁

I love how we all agree that Kenji and Warner make this series good

In defense of the writing style of the earlier books - the dramatic prose is exactly how a teenage girl would write/journal about her life. I don't think it's bad, I think it makes sense for Juliette's character. She is the pinnacle of teenager cast-out-from-society angst. When I read the series I actually took more issue with the later books - Juliette is going back and forth between having agency and seeming like she's actually learning how to defend herself to being a damsel in distress and captured (TWICE!). The whiplash honestly made the ending pretty anticlimactic for me - she struggles but doesn't. So much happens but then it's over immediately.

shatter me is so weird and poorly written but somehow it's incredibly addictive... I think that Kenji sees the absurdity of this story and he makes fun of it which is extremely entertaining!

your suffering and effort won’t go unnoticed, emma! I will forever remember your sacrifice and the entertainment it brought me as I was bedridden with the worst flu of my adulthood. 🙏

she was really locked up for less than a year in her entire life and was still like “i don’t know what anything is”

I struggled through the first book because so many people had loved this series, but the introduction of the purple jumpsuit was the final straw for me... I can suspend my disbelief for a lot of things, but I needed to physically put the book down after this.

The way I worshipped these books in middle school. I had "there's something about raindrops" written on my WALL bc it was such a beautiful quote to me as an angsty teenager. Nice to see they went completely off the rails

What absolutely did it for me was the point in the series where Juliette goes "The new supreme of the establishment shouldn't be Warner or Anderson or even Castle. It should be me." Like girl what???😂😂😂😂😂

"He's a reasonable 5'9" -- Emma, you make the *best* matter-of-fact and deeply funny observations.

I’m currently reading the series and I LOVE IT. Yes, it has its flaws (like cringy stuff and poor writing) but I have grown emotionally attached to the characters and that’s made all the difference 😭

Maybe its because I’ve read the series when I was 14 or because English isn’t my first language and I read the books in English, but I actually really enjoyed the way Juliette expressed herself. Dramatic and a bit cringy yes but also very relatable.
