I have been calling for measures for temporary suppression to be in place for these kinds of sites for years. We've had two in my neighborhood in Vegas recently, SJ had Santana Row, LA had Da Vinci, etc... This kind of construction is incredibly vulnerable until the units are walled and suppression systems are on line.

Horrible Horrific 😮 I saw chunks of embers raining down on the street a distance away. Fires can move with a quickness in any direction. I hope all folks stay safe .

Bet there isn't any sheet rock in this building. The bone headed bean counter that decided that sheet rock isn't needed until later because it takes a different crew, should be arrested for arson. The number of these buildings that have burned due to lack of sheet rock have caused several billion in losses and lots of deforestation. Remember, the whole purpose of sheet rock is to slow fire spread. Dark smoke equals very hot fire. As the smoke gets lighter the fire is cooling off and that means firefighters are making progress. The wind will make a big difference is the ability to control the fire.
