Ocala, Florida bus crash today: Eight people are dead and forty others are hurt after a migrant bus collided with a pickup truck in Marion County.

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. between Dunnellon and Ocala.

Troopers say the international bus was transporting about 53 farm workers.

Folks, please don’t do this. Please don’t be foolish. In order to transport workers legally under State and federal labor law, buses, and other transport vehicles need to be licensed, insured, and inspected. They need to have full insurance coverage in the millions for a bus/workers comp. and certified inspection by a certified mechanic. In all likelihood, these were LEGAL H2A workers. Please leave the hate somewhere else right now. This is not the time for it. A lot of families are going to suffer because of this accident.

Doesn't matter if they are legal or illegal migrants. They are hard workers out in the farm fields, picking our food for the company they are working for so that food goes to our grocery stores. They are doing this job that some people will not do and that is to stay in the hot fields, picking the food for us to have on our dinner tables. Now 8 will not go home today and families have to bury them. Bus drivers should be respected on the road period and same goes for hard workers like these migrants who are working hard in the fields to put food in our stores for us to buy.

Very sad. If these seasonal foreign workers were hired by the farm legally with proper visa, insurance and immigration procedure, the aftermath should be covered. American taxpayers should not be forced to foot the medical bills. If there are illegal migrants hired by the farm under the table, the farm owner should face prison term.

It is illegal for a US business, farm or other, to hire non-citizens. This should be talked about. I really hope Florida is not allowing tax paying citizens to have their jobs taken.

It saddens me to see the state of many people in this country. Regardless of what country these migrants were from, how they entered the country, or any political or personal views, at the end of the day, 8 PEOPLE lost their lives this morning in a bus crash in Marion County this morning! 40 were injured and sent to area hospitals. First responders, hospital staff, family members of the 48, friends and children of the 48 (especially their children) are all being directly hit with the news and negatively affected. This is a tragedy. My heart and prayers go out to all negatively affected by this tragedy.

Farm owners sponsor migrant workers to get them their nonimmigrant visa and work permit, which costs around $500 and takes 2-7 months. Farms do this every year for thousands of migrant workers who do not immigrate but work the crops in whatever season and tasks their labor is needed. Usually picking fruit like strawberries which cannot be mechanically harvested. Americans won't do these jobs for the pay that the farmers can afford to offer and still remain profitable. The migrant workers will. That is how your grocery gets fresh fruit.
