Hi, thanks for the awesome videos on fault finding and diagnosing faults and manual operation of the soft top

There is one part of the Open operation that you didn’t cover

I’ll run through the sequence for my 2005 CLK55 A209

1. Hit open
2. Windows go down
3. Windscreen lock release

STAGE 1: Cylinders 3 and 4 are activated to raise the compartment cover lid until switch S84/19 registers that the bow has released from the lid and switch S84/13 registers that the lid is no longer in the closed position.

STAGE 2: Cylinder 2 is activated to release the front latch. Switch S84/11 registers that the roof is no longer locked, and S84/18 registers that the roof is still in the catch position.

STAGE 3: Cylinders 5 and 6 are activated to raise the rear glass (bow).
Bow goes up fully upright. I am assuming Switch S84/15 has registered that the bow is now in the fully upright position. How do I test that.

6. That’s it, I can hear relays clicking but cylinders 3 &4 don’t run or raise the compartment lid at all

I’ve checked all of the physical parts and can’t see any broken limits or such

Would appreciate your advice

Thanks, keep up the good work in your tutorials

Thanks for that awesome video explanation and all the details!
I have a problem with my vehicle for quite a long time already and haven't been able to solve it, but now I know which Microswitch with a high probability is causing my issues. Thank you very

I’m not really the most mechanical guy, but I do follow along with YouTube videos pretty well. So glad I found your channel. I’ll be needing the full kit of cylinders soon, and am actually excited to tackle this with a little help from a friend, and you, Klaus.

Super video, I got a CLK 240 which has sticky microswitches sometimes and resulting error messages. Very clear explanation for self diagnosis and fixing (saving lots of money). Danke schön.

Hey Top Hydraulics - can you help me please, i'm going crazy!!!? My 2004 goes down as usual, then won't close, doesn't even try, just states "visit workshop" - First diagnosed a broken replaced, but still the same error??? I then replaced S84/15 as it seemed to be happy to close the roof again if it didn't open past about three quarters open. Changed the switch, again, no fix! I've checked fuses (but as pump operates, so not likely) and I have switched around the yellow relays - still no change. Just to state have owned the car 1 year and roof has worked well. Fluid level correct in the reservoir, so no leaks. I've even taken the rear to bits to check is undamaged and appears to work correctly. A recent scan on an Autel professional diagnostic tool saw no errors on the roof control module. I double checked S84/13 by jumping the wires as I could do this whilst trying to operate the hood and again, the switch tests good as no change. Been quoted £500 to diagnose by a company 3 hours drive isn't worth fixing if thats my only option - can we save this lovely old only has 75k miles!

Thank you so much!!! I have been fiddling around for days trying to figure out my warming to ‘lower boot separator/ski bag compartment’
I tried a folded napkin in that left hand side mechanism (that you pointed out) so that the arm could fully press on it & connect & it worked first pop!
Now that I understand where the problem is coming from I can do something about it if it happens again! Thank you :)

Your awesome**thank you so very much for this information I've been having this problem with my vehicle for quite a while 1999 Mercedes CLK soft top 320 I knew it had something to do with the fuses the relay or the hydraulic system but now with the knowledge of this video I can inspect and diagnose all three to determine which is the major problem I will start and begin first with the fuses then with the relays but as also as you said check the hydraulic system for any low fluid or no fluid at all because my hydraulic system might be empty and they may be a leak as well so I might have to get the whole system replaced but thank you so very much for the knowledge and please continue to make these awesome great video
