As a microbiologist who enjoys avant garde music, I can't believe they made a piece just for me

I feel as if the piece is more for the performers than the listeners -- it would seem that the piece is more focused on the performers interact with one another than what the audience hears. I get that the audience is likely going to be told the context of this piece before hearing it, but it still feels like the piece is more focused on the performers to me.
