World Polio Day 2022 marks 20 years of polio-free status in the WHO European Region. Keeping the Region polio-free requires just as much commitment today as achieving it did in the 20th Century – including maintaining high vaccination coverage, watching carefully for any sign of poliovirus in any country in the Region and responding quickly if the virus is detected. Parents, health workers, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians and many more all play an important role in this joint effort.
