Frood, Frederick, was my grandfathers brother, my great uncle. Served his country in the Royal Navy throughout WW1 and survived. Volunteered again at the outbreak of WWII, now 50 years of age and Leading Cook. 2 weeks later he lost his life along with so many others, aboard HMS Courageous. I have a photographic portrait of him as a young man in Naval uniform, on a wall in my home. As well as the War Memorial on Plymouth Hoe there is another memorial on Burrow Hill in Plymstock, overlooking The Sound, honouring the residents of Plymstock who died serving their country. Frederick is mentioned there also, along with others from the area who served aboard Courageous.

Many young sailors died unfortunately that day. The british mistakes and policy during centuries caused lives and misfortune due to wars.
