Lenovo Y700 Touch Gaming Laptop: Long Term Review

Lenovo released a monster gaming laptop last year, but it suffered a few build quality issues. This year, Lenovo refreshed the design, and bumped up the hardware specs. Is this still a bang for buck champ? Can it compete with more expensive mobile workstations? Here's my long term review of the Lenovo Y700 touchscreen gaming notebook PC!

I have had two of these laptops, both have been great! I still use a 4k touch version now, and it rocks for schoolwork. I have a RTX 2080 desktop for gaming, so the GTX 960m is great for 4k YouTube, or just having more power to push those pixels for day to day tasks.

I do some light gaming on the Y700 once in a while, but it has aged REALLY well for just being a casual laptop. super fast and nice.

You deserve millions of views per video. MILLIONS. Awesome channel Juan - saw you on Pocketnow and figured I'd see if you had a separate channel. I was not disappointed haha.

So glad to see that you are keeping up with your channel. That is awesome in case the other stuff don't work out. You are doing incredible job on managing both. And yes your work ethic it speaks for itself. Just keep it coming!

I own this laptop and the only gripe I've ever had is the quality of the "neck" support.I cringe every time I open or close it because some of the plastic that is supposed to protect the joint in the middle has gotten displaced over time. I don't think this is necessarily a build quality error, but more of a "i carry this around too much" error. Thats the only problem I've had with it. It really is a powerful machine. Great vid!

I own this laptop in the UHD, 256GB SSD set up. I thought your review was spot on! I think you did a great job highlighting the pros and cons within the context of the demographic of people buying this laptop. Specifically your comments on portability and battery life. I would like to mention that there are some games that the PS4 is able to run at higher frame rates. Overall, great video!

I have this laptop since September 16 ....its so amazing and runs latest games well! but I'm concerned that will the keyboard keys will wear or fade out over time? And how long will it last before becoming obsolete?

Great video, what kind of rig do you use for video editing? Particularly when you travel or are out of the office?

I've been using this one for about 8 months now. It preforms really well in both videogames aswell as video editing/rendering and even 3D modelling and animating :) I take it with me to university every day without any problems. It may be a bit heavy, but I like the solid feel of it.

I've owned this laptop for a year and I absolutely love it. I am a mechanical engineer about to graduate and it handles my Inventor 2016, fusion 360, matlab and steam demands with no problems (mines is 15ISK touch 8GB RAM). I also like how easy and accessible it is to upgrade

I own this laptop. This is by far the best one I have ever owned. I replaced my HDD with a SSD and that made this thing fly. The speakers are AMAZINGLY clear and lound. Rendering video is a breeze and what little gaming I do, it has done it well. Build quality is solid. I've had no issue's as of yet so I would recommend this to anyone looking for desktop performance in a relatively small package. Great review by the way.

+JuanBagnell I've been seriously looking at the 15 inch UHD touchscreen model of the y700. Given that the UHD computer you tested before this computer didnt render the text of certain gaming titles and apps, would you take the standard HD screen over the UHD screen? I will be using the laptop mainly for video editing on Adobe Premier and occasionally playing Star Craft 2. Also does it matter if the screen refreshes differently between the UHD and the HD screen? Thanks in advance!

Hello, There!
Did you find the urge to remove the anti glare film like most owners have?
Thanks! great video!

Hi everyone,

I am thinking to buy this laptop ( Lenovo y700 ) or Mac Book Pro 13 Retina display. I'm thinking to use it for editing videos, photoshop, programming, web surfing, paper works, school etc. I WONT USE IT FOR GAMING since I own a gaming console ( Ps4), and I want that the laptop to stay in good condition for around 4-5 years.

I see that Lenovo is way cheaper than Mac, soo....

Which one do you guys recommend me to get?

Would you say the 128 SSD is enough for a normal user(for windows and programs) to keep it running smooth? I'm not an editor so I don't really use Hard editing like programs so I'm wondering if I should save 100euros and get the 128SSD instead of the 256?

I bought the Y-50 with the normal 1080p screen for around 1200 USD here in Sweden. Man I hated it because of the really SLOW HDD! Until I changed that to an SSD, then it was very nice. LENOVO customer service was bad when I asked for a replacement for the HDD... never buying a laptop from them again.
