Footscray Suburb Profile
CITY OF MARIBYRNONG SUBURB TV PROFILE
Welcome to the riverside area of the City of Maribyrnong, a location we believe is one of the best investment areas left in Melbourne.
The City of Maribyrnong has some of Melbourne's oldest suburbs including Footscray, Kingsville, West Footscray, Braybrook, Maribyrnong and the trendy suburbs of Seddon and Yarraville.
Major features of this area include the Maribyrnong River, Footscray Markets, Victoria University, Highpoint Shopping Centre, Whitten Oval, Medway Golf Club, Sun Theatre and Footscray and Pipemakers parks. It also neighbours the Flemington Racecourse and Melbourne Showgrounds.
As part of the Melbourne @ 5 million plan, the City of Maribyrnong will be significantly invested in by state and local governments over the next decade. Some of the infrastructure programs include the Maribyrnong Housing strategy and Footscray City Edge Master plan.
In terms of investing in property, the City of Maribyrnong really does offer a secure growth opportunity for the future.
SUBURB FOCUS - Footscray
Within the City of Maribyrnong and situated only 6 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD and Docklands precinct Footscray offers an affordable investment lifestyle.
There are just over 100 restaurants in Footscray as well as the Footscray Market. Education is also well established with local public and private primary and secondary schools as well as Victoria University's Footscray Park campus, which is located next to Footscray Park.
The suburb has grown at rate of just over 6% in the last 5 years due to new housing estates and residential apartment buildings. It will further transform over the next decade into a well-established inner-city suburb of Melbourne.
Footscray has an array of housing including newer apartments, townhouses and town homes along with the traditional homes, cottages and double fronted weatherboards.
Its emergence as an extension to inner Melbourne is challenging its traditional badge as the 'Heart of the West'.
Footscray is a Central Activities Area and serves a role to accommodate increased population. A structure plan is being prepared which will provide planning guidance for future development needs.
Footscray is a suburb on the rise and provides an excellent opportunity to invest in a profitable venture for the future.
