Infamously, Julio Jones came up short on a HAVE TO HAVE IT pass in 2009 against LSU. Patrick Peterson undercut an out route by Jones and caught an interception inbounds. It was initially ruled incomplete after referees discussed, and they did not overturn it on review. In the replay, Peterson not only got one foot down, but he actually got two. Alabama would score a field goal on the drive to go up 24-15 and later win their first championship under Saban. It’s unclear if LSU would’ve scored from the 31 yard line, but had they done so, Alabama probably would’ve lost the game and missed the BCS Championship game against Texas.

Saban had a much better example to go to for this. Devonta Smith carried them to a championship in 2020. Julio Jones only managed 43 catches for 596 yards & 4 TDs in that 2009 season.
