I’m sorry but why on earth would anyone ever take an STG over an AK in post apocalypse

Fun fact Vietnam still uses milled AK’s. In fact its hard to find any pictures of them using stamped AKs. Although they’re finally upgrading to their “STV-380” which is basically a modified Galil-Ace.

This AK is looking awesome, so clean for an old gun!

Not 100% sure on this, but the reasons for the selector being on right side were; the Red Army soldiers were used to using bolt-actions that had the handle on the right side and almost every military taught to use the firing hand to operate the gun and change magazines while keeping the left on the weapon.

Love that AK. It's simplicity alone is the reason I would take it with me in a post apocalypse scenario

Amazing score!
1. Soviets in the 60s-80s had better life than many Canadians today
2. Just BCG alone of the AK has more science in it than some other entire guns. AK can run indefinitely long without lube - If you are an engineer, you know what that means

Though it's not exactly the same, i have a century arms milled AK with chrome lined barrel, and i have to say - its a pleasure to shoot. Milled may be heavier but so smooth to use!
Great video my man!

Such a beautiful rifle, nothing beats the AK! reliability under harsh conditions, low production cost (compared to contemporary weapons), availability in virtually every geographic region, and ease of use. Why wouldn’t anyone love it!

Here is a question for Arm&Gun: What is your favorite semi-automatic rifle and why? And will you use it in a post apocalypse event?

It takes a shot like no problem. Not rusted at all..

Thats a great ak right there.

Quick side note: I absolutely love the pups in the videos.

In a world where both rifles have equal opportunities, I would take the STG-44. Primarily because of the ergos, most of which you covered.

Friend, it's just that part of Canada you're living to own so many weapons

Yeah cause not almost every gun from that time had sights like that

Love the color of the wood finish. While not my favorite gun it is a very good looking one

One of the best looking guns ever made. I have the parts. Just need the receiver and build tools

I think the charging handle is on the right side so you can keep your left hand on the fore-end and shoulder the rifle while cycling it with your right hand.
Putting the charging handle on the left means you can keep your right hand on the grip and use your left to charge, sure. But it's harder to keep the weapon shouldered and maintain sight picture that way because as you observed yourself, the center of balance is beyond the magazine.
Also, if you're right hand dominant, using your right hand to find a new mag, eject the old one, insert the new one, and charge the weapon is going to be easier than using your left to do all of those same tasks.
