They did look pretty moist when you took them out of the silica gel. That was the first thing I noticed bcuz you said it was to dry the moisture out of them but they looked like the day you cut them off of the plant.

Am I the only one who thinks that it’s still beautiful?

Your orchid isn’t destroyed please don’t get rid of it

Pruning the flowers can encourage bigger ones to come back next time either closer to the base or the very ends. Just water it once in a while and it will bloom again, maybe even once again this summer depending on your climate

I love orchids and it makes me so sad when people toss them after the flowers have fallen. They don’t spend much time blooming but when they do it’s so pretty!

I was NOT expecting follow up- I saw the original video and KNEW this was gonna happen. They were still floppy before the resin. Thank you for sharing all the way through!

Thank you for showing the reality of stuff! Preserving organic stuff in resin is SO difficult

yeaaa they were REALLY soft when you took them out of the silica. they should be slightly crunchy, but not falling apart

you could try a flower stabilization technique that fixes the color: Once cut, immerse the flower in a 20:80 solution of water: vegetable glycerol for 24 hours then leave to dry to perfection.
Another stabilization technique is to immerse the flower in alcohol until it completely loses its color and then immerse it in a solution of food coloring and then let it dry.❤

I love that you're not afraid of admitting your mistakes and want to try and grow from this unfortunate experience, says a lot about you ❤

1. Dry them for a couple weeks- if the silica gets too moist (usually turns blue) put the flower in a fresh patch and bake the saturated silica in the oven to dry
2. Spray the flower w/ UV protectant acrylic spray after drying and prior to resin to prevent color loss (the resin is like a magnifying glass in the sun amplifying the if bleaching the flower)
3. Make sure when you drill the hole for the hardware, swipe some more resin around the raw edge to make it air tight again. Otherwise it will still rot (albeit slower) even if fully dry

I think they still look pretty. Maybe you can paint over them a little more add a powdered gold glitter ✨

It's awesome that you're showing your trial and errors! You get it right as you go! They're still really beautiful and the shape is amazing.

It reminds me of the moon orchid. It has white color. Those earrings are still beautiful to me.

I purchased rose bud earrings in resin.
They looked pretty for a few weeks and then got paler as time went by.
The thing is the outside of the rose buds are covered in resin but the inside is untouched organic material that will break down thus resulting in the paler color.

I’m sorry the “rotting” earrings are completely EATING the originals up! They’re gorgeous and would be SO UNIQUE and 1 of a Kind you’ve created such a TIMELESS PIECE I hope you think about saving them by just protecting what you have💕😍💕😍

I'm so happy to hear you're not giving up on it!!!
I'm embarrassed how many times I've made the mistake of thinking the flower was fully dry. 😢
