Whatever your thoughts on Apple, there's a reason the majority of designers use their products (including me). Usability is at the forefront clearly.

I could have made this video in two minutes.

This is so true. Apple is one of the few companies that puts so much effort in making their product experience consistent and harmonious. They have been able to replicate it even in their ads and keynotes. In regards to a brand's personality, this consistent experience and visual voice directly correlates to brand loyalty from the users. I think every designer should learn from what apple does and how they do it.

I am definitely guilty of having said stuff like their dashboard widgets were totally dated. Albeit, I was thinking more like a consumer than a designer. This helped put things in perspective, thank you for the reality check!

We’ve all seen what happens when companies stray a bit too far away from usability, widows 8!

Good point, however the reason why a lot of people critique apple is for all the reasons you described. A lot of users don't care about 100 variations of pointer and would prefer to see more substantial, functional changes that would allow them to get more out of their device (other than nice animations). Apple focus is on experience, unfortunately now it comes at a price of innovation.

Couldn't agree with you more! There is so much that goes into into shipping experiences: convoluted internal process, legal, compliance, security, language, research, resource allocation, infrastructure, tech debt, and company politics, just to name a few. This has been a recurring conversation between myself and some friends who work at Facebook who also understand the inner workings of a large organization and how these things affect their ability to ship work. Anytime I see someone make a comment like you describe here, it really shows the career maturity of that person.

I think it is a longer game from Apple. Widgets are needed for their upcoming glasses, that’s why they only introduced widgets now and not 5 years before :)

What this video means to me is that companies have their reasons.

But as consumers, our needs evolve. Android has been an instrument into shaping and also fulfilling those needs that Apple wasn't able to. There's also Windows.

Why some folks say they can design things in two days, is because they have interacted with that feature long enough to understand it. like Widgets. That's been with Android long before Apple released it. Split screen view, bezzel less design, the use of NFC etc - years have passed before Apple implemented them.

Apple has many strengths. But you can't ignore that Android based products and users move on fast - because that's what technology is. It evolves because it needs to be intuitive to enable it's users.

I like your video style, it's so fun to watch. Entertainment videos are very fun but if teachers like you exist we don't need any more entertainment channels or websites! You are enough for giving us entertainment plus high-quality education at the same time, and all that for free!!!! Thank you, I am humbled :)

I completely agree, before anyone takes a s**t on what's being introduced by these companies, we need to understand the marriage of business and customers through design. Making something 'The Why' amidst other equally promising priorities, and then getting an entire company to buy into the idea isn't simple. Be it Android or Apple, it's a lot more than what we can see.

It’s always easy when looking at a solution to say it’s an easy/obvious design. All the real work goes in to figuring out that that is the simplest and best way to do things.

I can't at how genuine and helpful your content is. I can't even imagine to think of how you all manage to do this at the frequency you all do. Kudos to the team! You're helping a lot of budding UX Designers in the world.

In my experience I see the opposite of this ... Designers Fanboying Apple (It's rare to see a designer that hates Apple)

I used osx for music production and i really liked the UX of Logic Pro and i loved Final Cut. There is one thing i never understood is people calling macos intuitive. I don´t say macos is difficult to use but it should explain the basics when booting it for the first time. i am a software developer and even i found macos to be confusing at first.
