Saint Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra, or Saint Trinity Alexander Nevsky Monastery was founded by Peter The First (Peter The Great) in 1710. It is located on the embankment of Neva River where nowadays ends Nevsky Prospect (Avenue) of St Petersburg, Russia.

By the legend, in that part of Neva river at the 15th of July, 1240, was a famous Neva Battle under leadership of Prince Alexander Nevsky, where he defeated the Swedes. However, that battle actually took place about 12 miles (19km) away form where Alexander Nevsky Lavra is located now.

In 1797, the monastery was raised to the rank of lavra, making it only the third lavra in the Russian Orthodox Church that had that designation bestowed upon it, following only the Kiev Monastery of the Caves and the Trinity Monastery of St Sergius.

The monastery grounds contain two baroque churches, the Annunciation Church and the Feodorovskaya Church, designed by father and son Trezzini; the Neoclassical Holy Trinity Cathedral, built in 1778–1790 to a design by Ivan Starov and consecrated to the Holy Trinity; and numerous structures of lesser importance. It also contains the Lazarevskoe, Tikhvin, Nikolskoe, and Kazachye Cemeteries, where ornate tombs of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Mikhail Lomonosov, Alexander Suvorov, Nikolay Karamzin, Modest Mussorgsky.

I enjoyed last night's long walk. Today's sunny, leafy street scenes; the drone footage; and your interesting, well-enunciated commentary make for a great follow-up. Your production values remain very strong. Well done.

Sergey, excellent video as always!

When covid lockdown allows I'd love to see Cruiser Aurora. I mentioned it during your Ufa live stream.

Another great video, Sergey!
I went to the Lavra last year, and it's a place where (from my experience) you can really experience calm. I guess the quiet atmosphere of the park and grounds surrounding the Cathedral help.

Alexander Nevsky is my favourite Russian historical figure. I had the great opportunity to visit the Lavra 3 years ago, just so wonderful and unique. I went to the McDonald's across the street and got a Mcflurry afterwards. Great times! I miss Saint Petersburg 😢

Alexander Nevsky was smart to surrender to the Mongols and conserved Russia until it could fight back.

Such a beautiful monastery and grounds. We went there last summer. There is a bakery on site that sells fresh bread at 3 in the afternoon, but it is probably closed now because of the F' ing virus.
