I happened to be walking past some trees in my area and suddenly a green round fruit fell almost on my head. I was so surprised and was curious. I picked up two and contacted a friend to identify them. When he said that they were walnuts, I was so shocked. Never knew walnuts were in my area. They are so very expensive so I was thrilled. I will begin harvesting them. So excited! I absolutely love walnuts!

Thank you! We’ve recently bought in Western suburbs of Melbourne where there is a gigantic walnut tree. We are so excited to harvest and now know how!

My family have had a walnut tree all my life and my favourite way of eating them is when the husks are just cracking, then peel the yellow skin off the nuts and discard, the texture of the nuts like this is sooo lovely, I recommend!

I just finished harvesting a large amount of english walnuts...after I clean them up I put them on cookie sheets and toss them in a 200 degree convection oven for 30 mins then onto a chinese wicker drying rack...they are soooo delicious!!!

Hi Jacob, a very informative video. I have a mature tree in my garden in south west of WA. I am yet to get any walnuts from my tree as the red tailed black cockatoos always get them first. What is most upsetting is they just rip them from the tree and throw most onto the ground then they fly away. My tree is too big for me to net (I'm worried small birds will become tangled too) Do you have any advice please?

The Cocatoos get to mine and knock them to the ground before they're ready to harvest. Most still have the green fruit bit, but some half black. Can I still use these?

September 15th to 15 of Nov is when I harvest every day . I Dashiell clean and sell them. I also make oil, butter, and candied walnuts in my country. The small and the rotten or with holes go for the wood stove as coal. 1 kilo bag per hour

Thank you for this. I live in The US Inland Northwest where these are not native. This year is the first in five that the squirrels have not cleared the tree before a single one dropped. Here the are dropping in their green, usually with a crack making for easy shelling of the outer part. I was glad to know about the blackened ones, though I am finding a few with some black, that when removed have small larvae on the shell. I am able to wipe it clean, and am hoping they are as clean as they look. it's a huge tree. I rent this home and I am so blessed....also just harvested 7 Italian prune trees. Got any tips for cutting down on the worms in Spartan apples? Thanks again!

What time of year do you see your walnuts ripen? I'm in Australia, rural area of NSW. I have a walnut tree but I've never seen the (hull?) I think its called the green outer shell, crack open so I'm not sure what time of year to keep an eye out for them. The bloody galas/birds get to them before I do I know that much lol

My walnut tree is to big to harvest, its a matured tree of about 25m so i cant really get to any of the branches. I have to pick em up, about 50-100 every 2 days.

If you want steady full production of nuts each year mulch your tree with leaves.

No your wrong you can eat them early before drying them what is necessary is that you need to peel the skin off the nut before you eat them they are sweet and milky, they are delicious 😋
