A sprawling wildfire burning in the US state of New Jersey could become the largest in the state in about 20 years, having already consumed some 11,500 acres, US officials said on Wednesday.
New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection footage shows rows of trees in the Pinelands area engulfed with fire while emergency workers scrambled to prevent further damage.

Acting New Jersey Governor Tahesha Way declared a state of emergency on Wednesday.

"At this time, we have no loss of life and no homes have been harmed," Way said in a post on X Wednesday morning local time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
