Behringer Grind Full Review and Demo

A Deep Dive Demo of the Behringer GRIND looking at the functions of it in detail. It's a bit like the CRAVE with a different oscillator - well it's VERY like a CRAVE replacing the analog VCO with their Brains digital oscillator. Its based on Plaits with 15 of the Mutable Instruments algorithms plus 9 of Behringer's own.

You can change the LPG decay time with a key combo: hold bank + morph.

Seems like the perfect compliment to my Minibrute 2S and Neutron current semi-modular set-up. Digital oscillators that accept CV and a Moog-style 4 pole filter.

I'm really hoping Behringer continues making this same format, taking really popular eurorack modules into standalone units. There's so many really cool modules that I would love to have but I don't want to put together a rack. Like they could even make half size units for less money that could be a few LFOs, or extra filters, or a bank of mults etc. For sure they need to make a daisy chain power chord. I think they would be super popular. I'm sure there's lots of folks like me that want some eurorack type modules but don't want to make a rack, or maybe not, IDK. Regardless, I got a spot cleared off next to my Crave and Edge Sweetwater's site says end of December for Ameribros. Good stuff Starsky, always a great demo man.

Great video. Behringer critique aside, putting Plaits (plus extras) as the OSC in a (somewhat) Mother 32 clone is pretty damn clever. I'm so tempted, but then remembered Plaits is so ubiquitous, I already have it in VCVrack on desktop, MiRack and Spectum on ipad/iphone, plus UGens on my Monome Norns. I can hear in parents voice, "You don't need a Plaits based synth, we already have Plaits at home!"

I thought Neutron was a hugely powerful Monosynth - and you can write some fantastic tracks just using that one synth (and FX). But this takes it to the next level for range of tones available. Its frankly insane...a blank piece of paper for tones. Well done to Behringer for another somewhat "original" synth.

I always like watching your videos. I don't think there's a Grind in my future, but it looks like a well thought out product. Probably the first thing I'd try is S&H at the oscilator mode. 🙂
