Trust your ancestors. These breakfasts kept them healthy and happy. Eat in moderation and avoid sedentary lifestyle. But; If you are already diabetic, then follow the diet suggested by your doc.

He is right, rice which is used to make idli is proceesed as its outer layer is removed by polishing, so it increases sugar level instantly as its simple carb, the problem is not with idli and its with polishing rice, eat whatever available in nature without processing or modifications, you are fine.

It depends on every individual, i also monitor my sugar levels, and foe me, it always spike even having plain wheat roti and doesnt when I eat rice. I ALSO TESTED IT AFTER ALOO PARANTHA IT MADE IT SPIKE DRASTICALLY, SO IT DEPENDS ON HOW YOUR BODY REACTS TO CERTAIN FOOD.

To everyone here: It's important to keep things in perspective. Blood sugar spikes after carb meals are normal — our bodies are designed to handle them. What’s more concerning is chronic elevation, which can be caused not just by food, but also by factors like a sedentary lifestyle, poor sleep, chronic stress, frequent snacking, and binge eating — all of which can disrupt glucose regulation.

If your insulin receptors are worn out or desensitized — as in insulin resistance, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes — then yes, more intentional and strict glucose management is often necessary. In such cases, your cells aren’t responding efficiently to insulin, so tighter control helps prevent long-term complications.

For generally healthy individuals, occasional large or moderate glucose spikes are expected and well-managed by the body.

The goal isn’t to fear every rise in glucose, but to support our bodies with:

Consistent physical activity
Stress management
Good sleep hygiene
Balanced meals (based on activity levels), spaced adequately (around 5–6 hours apart)

Glucose spikes alone don’t define health — it’s the overall metabolic pattern that matters. Let’s focus on sustainable habits, not fear-driven perfection.

- Generally For all people, a good rule of thumb is to include fats, proteins, carbs, and fiber in each meal — with portion sizes adjusted to match their activity level.

If you see both the graphs, the glucose levels in the idli comes down more quickly as compared to paratha. Parathas have more fats, which resist insulin action on glucose spike. Correct me if I am wrong.

The whole point of idli is that it consumes the sugars in the rice and urad dal for fermentation and aerates the batter, which further expands on steaming. I guess the spike in glucose is more to do with the coconut chutney and tomatoes and carrots and pumpkin in the sambhar, rather than the idli itself.

Its not idly, its the coconut chutney which you have eaten a bowl full quantity. Dont misguide people. "Idly is most healthiest breakfast" voice coming from my happy tummy after having idly.
