---------------

The Tide’s Magnificence is a beautiful 196 page hard back book containing 79 poems written by Molly Drake from 1935 until her death in 1993. With 26 songs across two CDs performed by Molly Drake and recorded on vintage tape recorders in mono by her husband, Rodney Drake in the 1950s and 1960s.

“This is the missing link in the Nick Drake story.” Joe Boyd

The Tide’s Magnificence comes as a full colour 196 page hard-back case-bound and stitched book printed on contrasting paper stock with printed page edges. The book contains 79 poems by Molly Drake, lyrics to the songs, a 14 page introduction by her daughter, the actor Gabrielle Drake, photos, diary extracts, song manuscripts and handwritten notes by Molly, as well as the essay Give Me A Place To Be, which previously appeared in the book about Nick Drake: Remembered For A While.

There are two CDs containing 26 songs. The first CD was originally released as a limited private pressing in 2013, the second contains 7 unreleased songs all of which were recorded in mono in the 1950s on home tape recorders by Molly’s husband Rodney Drake. The songs were digitally transferred by Nick’s producer and engineer; John Wood and mastered by Simon Heyworth at Super Audio Mastering carefully preserving the varying qualities inevitably found in such old recordings.

Many of the songs and poems were so exquisitely covered on the 2017 tour by The Unthanks and on their CD and Vinyl release: ‘The Songs Of Molly Drake’

The Tide’s Magnificence is a limited edition, there will only be one pressing of the set before it is made available as a single CD.

Was amazed to hear this song placed at the end of Ted Lasso Season 2 Ep. 10. Whoever is handling music for that show knows their catalog.

The melodies were very sentimental, couldn't help not to search for it. Thanks Ted Lasso 👍

Lyrics

We tramped the open moorland in the rainy April weather
And came upon the little inn that we had found together
The landlord gave us toast and tea and stopped to share a joke
And I remember firelight
I remember firelight
I remember firelight
And you remember smoke
We ran about the meadow grass with all the harebells bending
And shaking in the summer wind a summer never-ending
We wandered to the little stream among the river flats
And I remember willow trees
I remember willow trees
I remember willow trees
And you remember gnats
We strolled the Spanish marketplace at 90 in the shade
With all the fruit and vegetables so temptingly arrayed
And we can share a memory as every lover must
And I remember oranges
I remember oranges
I remember oranges
And you remember dust
The autumn leaves are tumbling down and winter's almost here
But through the spring and summertime we laughed away the year
And now we can be grateful for the gift of memory
For I remember having fun
Two happy hearts that beat as one
When I had thought that we were "we"
But we were "you and me".

EASILY some of the most heartbreaking lyrics I've ever heard in my 59 years. Beautiful remembrance of one side falling in love, the other a casual ho-hum recollection.

I’m another lucky one who stumbled upon this song via Ted Lasso. This piece is such a gem!!!

Did not know Nick Drake's mother made music. This is the best, beautiful honestly.

Another new admirer of this song after hearing during Ted Lasso credits

It's sweet and gently funny, I've only just discovered her. I love her little weaver bird too.
She was Nick Drake's mother, he obviously inherited her lyrical talent, sadly missed.

This is almost heartbreakingly beautiful.

For those who can't make it out, the recording ends with Molly's husband Rodney--who was recording her on a mono reel-to-reel recorder--saying, "I think that was very good." Typical British understatement,

What a beautiful song! Brought tears to my eyes remembering my late husband.

This is about Rodney and Molly's growing life together, and hearing Rodney at the end "I should think that's really good" really completes this beautiful song for me

This song is one of the most dearest to my heart. This is my wife and me. It is our life. Our marriage. She’s a saint and I’m a bit of a bastard. I’m blessed and she is Molly Drake in this song.

I just heard this on Desert Island Discs. Had a bit of a weep over it. What a poignant, lovely song.

This song reminds me of my ex-wife. She was an emotional vampire who took me for granted for 16 years. Either I stayed with her and remained unappreciated all my life, or left her to maintain my sanity but be blamed for everything that went wrong. It is painful still. Because even though we are no longer “we”, I love her still.

Listen to the end when Nick compliments her. Always gets me.

this is the type of song that really paints a picture in my head, not a lot of musicians do that for me, love this eternally

The world is so small when I realise her son is buried in the village I lived in until 11 years ago, never was a huge fan of nicks music but I love this

Just heard it on Ted Lasso and will check out more of hers. Hadn't heard of her before, but just learned she was the mother of a boy who became one of the greatest folksong writers and singers of all time: Nick Drake. Like mom, like son, geniuses
