As a woman who has had to cut all ties with her father because he is an abusive alcoholic, this song broke me. And then healed me. And then broke me. I can't remember the last song that had this effect on me. And I don't think people understand how detrimental it is to a woman to not be loved appropriately by her father. I have a hard time letting anyone close to me, especially men. My fiance is the closest I've ever let someone and I'm so terrified of getting hurt that I keep moving the wedding date. But he understands... So yeah, this song is amazing and heartbreaking, and sadly so true. My heart goes out to any woman who has felt the way I feel. Much love to you all.

Alcoholism killed my dad on Dec. 24, 2020. Watching him caring more about his friends and drinking my entire life broke me in so many ways. Then when he finally did stop drinking it was too late and the last 2 yrs of his life was in and out of hospitals. Hardest thing ever. Wishing everyday that he would of stopped drinking and cared more about family long before his health lost. Amazing song! What I went through with him has hurt my marriage in many ways. Coming up on 2 yrs without my dad and this song came out. Shows a sign. Thank you for writing the song that hit home in so many ways! Truly amazing how a song can make you feel it was written for you! Beautiful song and something more women need to hear because it’s true our dads can break us in ways we would never let another man! I have a tattoo on my arm “a little girls first love is her papa and her dad” my dads dad and my dad passed 5 days apart. Hardest thing I’ve been through in my life. Both had big alcohol issues!
