South Korean cellist Jaemin Han, who hit the headlines in 2021 when he became the youngest prize winner in the history of the George Enescu International Competition, plays Poulenc’s Les Chemins de l'amour. This piece started out as a lyrical waltz-song, all about love and loss, that formed part of the incidental music Poulenc wrote for Jean Anouilh’s play Léocadia in 1940. Often said to be the instrument that sounds most like the human voice, the cello here takes the vocal line and sings a beautiful song without words. Jaemin Han is accompanied by pianist Jonathan Ware in a performance of irresistible charm.
