Hard sparring vs. light sparring in boxing: which one should you choose when training? I am not a fan of hard sparring, and you should generally avoid it. However, there are times when you need to spar all out, especially if you are training to fight and compete. Sparring is important to train your boxing techniques and skills.

Like my coach said, I rather get hurt in the fight than during sparring

Hard sparring is never good unless you’ve never done it. Always take it easy

There's no point I'd rather save it for a real fight..not be injured.

Agree, i use to box only semi pro level and only hard sparred for a fight and only for 4 weeks of the camp.

Often did sparring with speed but not power.

I think the problem is what most people consider hard sparring is decent level of sparring. Some places spar so light that is ridiculous and you will never be prepared for a real fight

What makes you a good striker comes from heavy bag work, And drills, light sparring is for executing techniques in real time. Don't get fooled into thinking you need to go hard to be a better fighter.

But hard sparring are also necessary to know where is your limit. In order to understand there is always stronger than you. Question is the frequency. But otherwise indeed, regular hard sparring won’t bring you anything at all, except health problems

One guy that comes to mind is Brandon Rios. He's a warrior, and I mean no disrespect, but he's not even 40, and he sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles.

I sparred 2 days in a row, it was pretty light and even got to the point where I gave and took some hard shots. I’m gonna sit out for a while. I’m scared it’s gonna get bad

At my gym we go light to the head and hard to the body but not full blown attempted murder, if someones got someone in yhe corner and their not getting out we usually ease off and let them through, and the national champions and fighters with fights usually dont ever go hard unless its against another high level fighter

Let's be real all sparring ends up becoming hard maybe 1 out of every 50 sparring sessions is actually light and that's usually when your in there with a complete beginner 😂😂😂😂
