One of the better formated and produced reviews I have seen.

When I reviewed this same unit a few weeks ago the over voltage and over current limits were working for me even with repeated attempts, I don’t remember what firmware version mine was. It is funny how our reviews ended up being so similar, but we both covered what needed to be tested.

Hey Kerry, the OVP indicator on the display was GREEN the first time until triggered, and was still RED the second time you applied power, indicating it is inactive. Another excellent KW review. I enjoyed your change in delivery tone 20:50 " What⁉" when you discovered the protection was disabled. 😯 The user manual does not state how to restore OVP. I agree with you that the software is incorrectly programmed for absolute user protection. Firmware update is not available when I checked. I think FNIRSI should be quicker about implementing fixes across their devices, especially if they are inadvertently using influencers for beta testing. For the price, I wish they supplied a high voltage PD source. Otherwise, they should just call their product a DC-DC converter. It's not a power supply in the classic sense.

Great video as usual. Professional, unbiased and informative. Thank you.🙏

If OCP or OVP (red) lights up, simply press “home” twice until “OK” (green) appears again.
The protection will then work again.

Should do a comparison to AlienTek DP100. Great review, thank you.

Amazing power supply! The portability and versatility are incredible. You can bring 150 watts of power to anything in the palm of your hand.

This will be a nice add on to older power supplies that can output 30 volts at 5 amps but do not have the granularity of voltage and current control of output and also the addition of a digital display the FNIRSI has. Great way to resurrect and make one of your old faithful beloved power supplies back from the back shelf of your bench. I got one just for that purpose. You can use a laptop PC power brick and utilize it with the FNIRSI for a portable power supply when you need one on the go.

Hi Kerry,
I find your review one of the best I have ever seen on YouTube!
You are obviously experienced in electronics. My background is from condensed matter physics.

I found that there is a software upgrade to version 1.6 for this unit.
It would be fantastic if you could do a future video of upgrading this?
Thanks for the great work,
Ken

"Accuracy is pretty good".
- I think it is excellent!

Just tested my unit with version 1.1 firmware. It agrees exactly with your tests. My overcurrent settings are ignored on the second try too. There is a red OCP warning in the PC software next to the "Open" button. Great review!

As usual, well done Kerry! I would mount a small cooler with a thermal sensor there, in case of prolonged use of the converter.

Thank you for a very informative review

It appears there may have been voltage present at zero setting due to an internal capacitor across the output terminals. An internal capacitor across the output terminals could also explain the instability at low output currents. I have seen similar behavior on expensive bench supply with an $800 price tag.

If the Fnirsi power supply had buck/boost function, it probably would have been a much larger volume to accommodate a big inductor or switched capacitors as voltage multiplier.

I think the over voltage and over current protection is more so a "User error prevention" system. When you change the voltage or the current live it most likely would react.

An open switch is off, and a close one is on. It is actually logical having the switch concept in mind.
Also I have another power supply which can be also powered by both barrel and usb-c and there is no need for a switch to select either one. I suppose the function of the slide switch behind it is indeed that of powering on and off the device.

Could you compare it to Miniware MDP P906 ?

A comparison between Fnirsi DPS 150 and Alientek DP 100 would be wonderful. Which one would you recommend?

Judging by the inductor design this does not appear to be an isolated power supply. People need to be careful if using more than one of these (for example, to create a positive and a negative voltage) as there are certain situations where a short circuit and potential internal damage will occur (if they are both sharing the same power source or they are both connected to USB). Good lab power supplies are always isolated.
