My first Thinkpad is T480s and I will continue to support thinkpad. The reasons are simple.
1) Repair friendly and cost effective (I replaced original OEM A, B, C and D cover, plus new LCD panel, and it only costed me around MYR 800 or equivalent to USD 180. Those parts were ordered from reputable stockist on Taobao China)
2) Rigid built quality
3) Customizable spec if order from regional Lenovo website

I bought one for $2, 000 and wiped out Windows from it and installed Linux (Ubuntu) on it the same day I got it. Mine is a Yoga Touch screen with fingerprint scanner, it works great with NO issues, it’s almost been 2 years since.

I got a Dell XPS 13 and it is safe to say my biggest regret is not getting a think pad, if you are a college student a nice sleek laptop seems very attractive at first, however, after the first year it sucks. The lack of ports, lack of durability, and the poor cooling sucks. If I could go back, I'd get a think pad. My next laptop will most likely be a ThinkPad. Anyways don't make the same mistake I made lmao

Easy to find repair parts (compared to other brands) on auction sites and at computer recyclers. I have been using Thinkpads for over 20 years.

I've been using IBM/Lenovo thinkpad T-series since forever...when batteries run out, I can easily order new one and replace them myself. Mine has two batteries, and a matte touch screen that is great for outdoor work.
Worth every penny / cent. And it has very good support for Linux.

Good cooling. Generally don't hear the fan running, I think they have ventilation through the keyboard.

Speaking about machines itself. I figure out that the best model is the P1 - A lightweight (pricy but good) workstation. In the less pricy machines the T series are, for me, the best ones..

After T480 serviceablity is limited but ThinkPads are affordable and good value. However, if you want the best investment for your future I suggest Framework laptops.

The best option is related to service which is what is called today "Lenovo Vantage" (old name on IBM time was system upgrade) ...Basically you run this and you upgrade all firmware and drivers without any kind of problem. The machine tunes its model and seriel number with the international support system checks what you have installed and upgrade all in a very easy way. Other manufacturers, you need to have a training course to figure out how to upgrade. The other thing is the easy way to move from machine to another machine. I do not use this feature but it is known for beeing the easiest automatic way to migrate from one machine (ie the old model...) to a new machine.
