Former President George H.W. Bush was one of the youngest naval aviators in World War II. He flew 58 missions in the Pacific. One flight almost claimed his life when he was shot down and forced to bail out over water. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin explains.

The Japanese on that island actually did a lot more than execute the eight men they captured, they ate them too. You should look into it. If GHWB landed anywhere closer to that island he would’ve died and suffered the same fate. Interesting how media leaves out the real juicy parts…

27 April 2024 :
It is almost never remarked upon, that, George H.W. Bush came from a very wealthy family, and could have avoided combat duty on WW II .
In every way - mental, physical , and spiritual - he was a professional but also humble .
He was also something of a civil rights pioneer .

That his detractors called him a wuss! My brains doesn't know enough words to describe what a brave and great man he was. My heart feels those thoughts though.

Well ... Your "gloss-over" of what happened to the crew of the other 3 planes in the flight is woefully deficient. To say they were "executed" doesn't even come close. Maybe you should do another video and be accurate.

Did CBS “forget” to mention the part about GW’s fellow service members being cannibalized by the Japanese officers? (Who ate them not because they were low on food, but because they were sadistic and immoral).

My grandpa was a Marine aviator(gunner), who flew in George Bush’s old Avenger. He said that G. Bush let his crew mates die, more than once. He also heard about a Navy pt-boat captain, who fouled up, and got his crew killed. Those revelations were revealed to him long before either of those men became US Presidents.
