Many people think of hippos as cute and cuddly, like big cows, but they are one the most dangerous animals on the planet.

I read the ‘Tampa Bay Times’ 2018 article about her attack. It was her birthday and she and her husband (and another tourist) were in a canoe, with two guides on a tour that was advertised as ‘beginner friendly’!! They had just begun when a hippo came up under them and they were thrown into the air and then into the water. They were swimming to shore and just five strokes from it, the hippo chomped down on her right leg (broke the femur bone) and dragged her underwater. This video is a sort of recreation of what happened.
Edit: her ordeal was so awful and even her insurance company gave her grief about coverage for this!! Geesh‼️ A lot more details are in that article.

Hippos have the highest bite force of mammals and the second highest overall, 1, 800-2, 400 PSI. Hippos are the most dangerous animal in Africa, they kill more humans than Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Crocodiles, etc. Hippos can also charge at 20 MPH.

I know in a moment like this that your thinking is all over the place and understandably so. In whatever situation I'd always attempt to gouge the eyes, again, it depends on the situation, body position and your injury severity.

I can see why Ancient Egyptians thought hippos were the embodiment of evil. They look kind of cute, but they will easily outmatch a person in speed and strength both on land and in the water.

Don't hippos kill more people than sharks do?

I guess that's why they say Hippos are the most deadliest animals in the world.

These things look scary. Not like the baby hippo, Fiona, at the zoo. These full grown beasts are as big as a car!

Well I would suggest not tooling around in a bull hippopotamus territory with nothing more that a small canoe I mean it would really be ideal to not get in the water at all even if you are in a motor boat it's a simple task to flip a boat when you have the force of a guillotine attached to your foramen magnum
