A Post-Materialist Social Order with Neal Grossman

Neal Grossman, PhD, is an emeritus associate professor of philosophy at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is author of Conversations with Socrates and Plato: How a Post-Materialist Social Order Can Solve the Challenges of Modern Life and Insure Our Survival. He is also author of The Spirit of Spinoza: Healing the Mind.

Here he describes what society could be, based upon the reports from those who have had near-death experiences. The most fundamental premise is that people would naturally be truthful with each other at all times. Lying and deception would not occur. It would be recognized that newborn infants are coming into the world with a life purpose, and child-raising would be based on the premise of helping them to understand and actualize that purpose.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is a past vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology; and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that Association for his contributions to the field of human consciousness exploration.

Thank you both, I'm very happy that more people are talking about the afterlife. The goal should be to harmonize this realm so that it acts as a perfect step to the next, rather than trying to make this realm a copy of the next one, that's just silly. Also you should realize that there are many more realms beyond the one people experience after death. This was very refreshing. Its great to hear someone else speak the truth. My knowledge came from mystical experience and gnosis. I really liked "when we die we awaken from a dream." Neal Grossman says "The premise (of a post-materialist social order) became more real to me as I was writing it." This process, of seeing more and more clearly the possibility of a somewhat hypothetical thesis - and thereby helping to make it actually happen - is well observed. Think that's like William James "As if principle": “If you want a quality, act as if you already have it.”
I believe Prof. Grossman has a great vision of the way the still-hidden trend of history is moving. So many of these visionaries have shared their views on New Thinking Allowed. This is a great contribution to bringing about a world in which humans clearly perceive the oneness of all being, and the primacy of consciousness to the material. May this great change come soon. Jeffrey asks whether greed and egoism are hardwired into us. They are not. Because all things are ultimately one, the idea of separateness is an illusion based on the appearance of separateness. We can outgrow that immatured perspective. A matured human will also have outgrown anxiety over the organism's eventual 'death'. He or she will KNOW that E is not the body. ❤️😊
