What is Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis or ADEM? (pronounced A-dem)

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis or A-DEM is a neurological disorder that causes brain and spinal cord inflammation.
The nerves in the brain’s white matter are stripped of their coating causing damage that may affect the nerve’s ability to transmit information.
It’s sometimes misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis.
Symptoms can include fever, confusion, drowsiness, and even coma, vision loss, and paralysis.
