Sweet potatoes - surprise harvest

These sweet potatoes have been harvested nearly weekly for their young shoots. Great cooked and even better for your bowels. They didnt get much by way of fertilising, perhaps the odd splash of chicken manure tea to keep the plants lush for shoots. So it was a bit of a surprise when I repotted these to get a head start over the autumn so they can overwinter ready for next year.

Your harvest was better than mines and I pretty much had the same size container. Thanks for sharing. I have not uploaded my sweet potatoes harvest video yet. I am a northern gardener in zone 5b. I am coming across a number of northern gardener videos who are having low yields with their sweet potatoes harvest. And my understanding is northern gardeners have to utilize varieties that do well in our northern environment. I am going be trying these new varieties.

Not bad considering the size of the container and the fact you were using it for the leaves.  My wife has a friend who grows them in garbage cans, just like regular potatoes, and she has offered to advise us on growing sweet potatoes that way and getting a good harvest from them.  So we are planning to give it a go this year.

Nice harvest, and good sized potatoes as well! I'm currently growing sweet potatoes in my Huegel Culture Container Garden, planted about 18 days ago and looking forward to a good harvest this fall, happy grow season AussiePharmer!

Got to be happy with that mate.. we use the leaves a bit here as well but aware of their ability to help get things moving along..

My advice don't cut growing leaves so it's more potato in harvest

So after you harvested the sweet potato, you kept the plant? Are you able to keep it to re-plant for next year?
