Ukraine denies reports Soledar has fallen to Russia, Zelenskyy says battle “continues”

On Friday, Ukrainian authorities denied Russia claims that its forces captured the fiercely contested salt-mining town of Soledar, in what would mark a strategic victory for the Kremlin after a series of setbacks in its invasion of Ukraine.

"The heavy fight for the Donetsk region continues. The battle for Bakhmut and Soledar, for Kreminna, for other cities and villages in the east of our country continues,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. “Despite the fact that the enemy has deployed most of its forces exactly in this direction, our warriors — the Armed Forces of Ukraine, all defence and security forces — are defending the state."

There have been conflicting reports over who controls the town, the site of a bloody battle in the grinding fight for Ukraine’s eastern regions. The Associated Press could not independently confirm either side’s claim of territorial control.

Soledar is located in Ukraine’s Donetsk province, one of four that Moscow illegally annexed in September. From the outset, Moscow identified Donetsk and neighboring Luhansk province as priorities, and in September declared them part of Russia along with two other regions.

What I get from Zelensky is that Ukraine is fighting a super power that is 28 times it's geographical size and they haven't loss one soldier, one tank or one aircraft. After a while it really stops being believable. Both sides practice social media propaganda, that is the tactic of 5th generation modern warfare. Unfortunately Zelensky has taken it to such an extreme that I can't believe anything he says. At least Putin doesn't insult people's intelligence by taking them for complete idiots. How about the Odessa BBQ? Spoiler alert, it's not a restaurant in Ukraine and it took place before this war even started. How about the buses of russian speaking protesters that was torched with molitov cocktails in 2014. Can we talk about that? How about the fact that trudeau made a big issue of one person with a notz flag at the trucker protest of tens of thousands but we can train soldiers in Canada to fight in Ukraine that openly sport neo notz emblems. The neo notz element in Ukraine is well documented in the media 8 years ago for anyone that cares to look it up. Ironically the same news sources no longer mention it. This war is really the remnants of WW2 between Germany and Soviets that never ended leading up to a civil war. Ukraine is a failed state with many actors trying to profit from its natural resources and critical minerals. At what point did Canada start supporting notzs?

By continuing to denny that Soledar has fallen, despite all the geolocated footage of the Russians, Ukraine is "managing" the flow of information, and good for them. And Western media is SUPER happy to tow that line.
