For a comparison, in Denmark in 2017 the electricity production from wind and a bit of solar amounted to *45 %* of the consumption. The rest is made by burning wood chips, wood pellets, coal and gas. The grid is very *stable*, and have run a week without any production on the central power plans, which is possible due to the many smaller ("decentralized") units, and the strong grid connection to Norway, Sweden and Germany.

So, of course 50 % renewable electric energy is absolutely possible to achieve in Australia!
