the reason the couch looked like it was a figment of lsd, is because it was supposed to look "glitched". Though a better effect could've been used, it is said that in the backrooms, to travel from level to level, one must touch a glitched object to clip into a new floor. However, no matter what floor you're on, there is no escape. The floor you played through is "level 0", and the level you would have gone to next is level 1, habitable zone, which takes on the appearance of an office building.
