What is this I am hearing about 18650 batteries and why should I care? I'll explain.

In this video, I will provide a quick introduction to these little powerhouse batteries and why they are quickly becoming some of the most common batteries in the world. Not only do they provide more power and much higher energy density than older alkaline batteries but they last longer on the shelf and can be recharged over and over again. And they are safe to use as long as they have protection circuits and are not abused.

To purchase a good beginner set of these batteries WITH a charger for $13:

Thank you for the safety thing, I was using them without circuits and they were getting hot.

These would be dangerous to use in any device without the protected button tops. In fact, usually the devices like flashlights that use these cells are designed for that extra length and so an unprotected cell will not fit. I'm not sure what all is involved in the circuit besides the ability to cut off power to/from the cell to protect it from thermal runaway.

Nice job, can you do another video that explains the information more. Like the mAh, A, V, mR ! Also talk about salvaging dead cells

What's the mR mean regarding resistance? What's a good mR, like for a brand new button top Samsung Q30 18650 3000mAh 15A ?

Really informative video, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!

So, what is the "protection circuit" comprised off or how would you use these in a tool, flashlight etc., not designed for them?

i have invented a new lint remover and just found out from testing that sonic vibration, very similar to the philips sonic care toothnrush vibration, improves performance of my product greatly!

would you know anything about sonic vibration motors? I am starting to figure out that many sonic motors have a rated voltage of 3.7 Volts! The issue i have is i cannot use AA batteries with a 3.7 volt sonic motor, unless they make sonic motors at a rated voltage of 3 volts and even then, it would not make sense to use AA batteries, i think?

would my best bet be to just get a 3.7 volt battery of some sort and what would be the best option for me here?

Thx in advance!

What the difference between good brand 18560 batt versus cheap 18650 battery

18650 is a _size_ not a _type_. While 99% of the time (these days) any 18650 you find will most likely be a LiIo, I have NiCd, NiMH, even Lithium Metal (long-life, not rechargeable) batteries in 18650 form.

Any good books on Amazon I could give to an oldie to help him understand, he's 83yr old retired engineer. Still doing technical drawings. He's often asking me about (newer) technology..electronics and technology/science in general

Hello. Is all 18650 Li-ion batteries charged the same? Because I have a device with a built-in charger for the default battery. The default battery is a 18650 3.7V 1200mAh Li-ion, and I want to change it to a 18650 3.7V 3000mAh Li-ion battery from LG. Can I still use the same build-in charger? I don’t understand those advanced rules that come with batteries

Interesting. I have one of these in the new string lights. Much better than the ones that take AAs-those dim after being on for less than half an hour. The new ones stay as iff they are plugged in and then when needed I plug in the cord to the DC outlet and it charges. Big improvement! I did not know the rest of the info in your video. I think we will start seeing more items like my new string lights.
