The **Vox Continental** is a classic transistor-based combo organ that became iconic in the 1960s, particularly within rock, pop, and soul music. Produced by the British company **Jennings Musical Instruments** (Vox) starting in 1962, it was designed as a portable alternative to the heavier, more expensive Hammond organs. Unlike the Hammond, which used tonewheels, the Vox Continental used transistor circuitry, giving it a distinctive bright, reedy sound that fit perfectly into the emerging rock and roll scene.

Its sleek design, featuring reverse-colored keys (black naturals and white sharps), and lightweight build made it a favorite for touring musicians. It became especially famous after being used by bands like **The Animals** (on "House of the Rising Sun"), **The Doors** (with Ray Manzarek playing it prominently on many hits), and **The Beatles** (featured in "I'm Down" and other tracks).

Despite being largely replaced by synthesizers and digital keyboards in the 1970s, the Vox Continental remains a beloved instrument, often used by musicians seeking that vintage '60s sound.
